learning about the post

we are learning about the post i was lucky enough to find in a charity shop packets of used stamps which i got i have used them for free sticking with the twins my neighbour gave a us a load of old post cards a while back which we also used

with older children you could do a visit to the main post office maybe phone them and ask if they do a tour to show kids who the post is processed and sent a trip to the post office is another way you could get the kids to write their own letters let them buy the stamps and then take them to a mail/post box  if you wanted to could send the letter to a family member of friend or even back to your own address talk about your address talk about sending letter abroad and how they get a air mail sticker and travel via aeroplane they could even make their own post cards

Research for black Muslim history month black members of the sahaba

  • Bilal ibn Ribah - while still a slave, he converted to Islam and defiantly resisted torture and persecution (for his conversion) from his pagan slave-master. He later became the first mu'adhdhin (caller to prayer) in Islamic history.
  • Wahshy ibn Harb- he killed Hamza, Muhammad's beloved uncle and a leading Muslim general and formidable soldier, but redeemed himself when he converted to Islam. He later killed Musaylimah, the most formidable opponent of the Muslims during the Wars of Apostasy.
  • Usama ibn Zayd - loved by Muhammad almost as equal to a grandson. He was the youngest person ever to be appointed a general by Muhammad.
  • Umm Ayman (Barakah) - she was around Muhammad from his birth until his death and was the closest example of a mother to him (after his own mother’s death when he was a child). She was the mother of Usama ibn Zayd.
  • Al-Nahdiah - she converted to Islam while she was a slave, but refused to abandon her new faith even after being tortured and persecuted by her slave-master. She was later freed from slavery.
  • Lubaynah - she converted to Islam while she was a slave, but refused to abandon her new faith even after being persecuted by her then pagan slave-master. She was later freed from slavery.
  • Umm Ubays - she converted to Islam while she was a slave, but refused to abandon her new faith even after being tortured and persecuted by her pagan slave-master. She was later freed from slavery. She was the daughter of Al-Nahdiah.
  • Harithah bint al-Muammil - she converted to Islam while she was a slave, but refused to abandon her new faith even after being persecuted to such a severe extent that she lost her eyesight. She was later freed from slavery. Umm Ubays was her sister.
For the sisters with older children you could take 1 or 2 of these sahaba read the biograpy then try and write a little about this companion in the childrens own word ask what they thought about this person you could even make a small lapbook about them bilal is a great one as he was the frist mu'adhdhin (caller to prayer) in Islam have a look at some hadith about the  mu'adhdhin

                                    ON A PERSONAL NOTE
I mayself dont believe that spending loads of money on eid clothes is the way to go if you buy £25 pound abayah when you would normaly spend £100 you could donate the reat of that money to charityand for those who cant aford new clothes old ones are fine as long as they are clean some muslims go to the extreme of spending hundereds of pounds on clothes they will proubly only wear once !
